Georgia Proposes Changes to Prescription Transfers and Technician CE

Georgia’s Board of Pharmacy has proposed changes to prescription transfers and pharmacy-technician continuing education. Its October notice would consolidate transfer requirements, recognize qualifying transfers of unfilled electronic Schedule II prescriptions, and remove general technician CE while retaining function-specific statutory requirements. These changes are not effective. Written comments must arrive before November 17, 2026, ahead of a November 18 hearing and consideration for adoption.

A proposal with an approaching comment deadline

Georgia’s Board of Pharmacy posted its notice October 19; its announcement page is dated October 20. Amendments would consolidate prescription-transfer requirements and recognize transfers of unfilled electronic Schedule II prescriptions when federal law and recordkeeping conditions are satisfied. A separate amendment would remove general technician continuing education while retaining requirements for particular functions, including immunization education.12

These changes remain proposed. The hearing and consideration for adoption are scheduled for November 18, 2026, at 9 a.m., at PCOM College of Pharmacy in Suwanee. Written comments must be received before November 17. The notice establishes no effective date.2

Prepare without changing current controls

Chad’s analysis: Compare the proposed transfer language with dispensing software, documentation templates, and staff responsibilities before submitting comments. Keep existing training and renewal controls in place while this process remains pending. Prepare an implementation list, but activate changes only after confirming the final text, adoption status, and effective date. A proposed relaxation of one requirement should not become a broader assumption about technicians’ authority.
